Obituary of Leo S. Slawienski

Leo S. Slawienski, 65, of Hawk Street, passed away suddenly Wednesday morning at his home. Born in Amsterdam where he resided his entire life, Leo was the son of Leo W. and Amelia Nowak Slawienski. He was a 1958 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School, and received an associate?s degree in air conditioning and heating from Hudson Valley Community College. He also graduated from SUNY Albany with a degree in computer technology. Leo first was employed by the Slezak Petroleum Products as a driver and serviceman. Later he worked for Bartyzel Distributors and retired in the early 1980?s from the State of New York Department Of Transportation in Albany. Leo was a caring and devoted son, a generous and loving brother and uncle and a good friend to animals. He was a good Christian who loved to read the bible, and was a lifelong member of the Good Shepherd Polish National Catholic Church where he served as a former trustee. He was a member of the Young Men?s Society and at one time was the parish cemetery?s caretaker. Leo also assisted in the family business, the former Slawienski?s Caterers. His loving family includes his dear mother, Amelia Slawienski of Amsterdam; his sister, Sandra and her husband Gary Tatlock of Broadalbin; his brother, David and his wife Vicki Slawienski of Amsterdam; his nieces and nephews whom he thought of as his own children, Dawn Tatlock and her fiancé Jamie Liverio; Peter Slawienski and his wife Denise; Chris and Warren Tatlock; and Autumn Slawienski-Tracki and her husband Robert; a grandniece, Amber Tatlock; dear friends, David and Jeannie Hughes and their children Sherry and Paul. Leo was predeceased by his father, Leo W. Slawienski, in December 1974. A Mass will be offered at the convenience of the family at the Good Shepherd Polish National Catholic Church. Interment is in the family plot in Good Shepherd Cemetery. At Leo?s request, there are no calling hours and contributions may be made in his memory to the Good Shepherd Church, 27 Teller Street, Amsterdam 12010.
