Obituary of Arnold J. Wittemeier
Arnold J. Wittemeier, 85, of Tesiero Drive, passed away Thursday evening at St. Mary?s Hospital.
Born in Ft. Hunter on February 2, 1920, the son of Harold and Elsie Minch Wittemeier, he lived here his entire life.
Arnold retired from the General Electric Company in Schenectady where he was employed as a toolmaker for a number of years.
He was an active resident of Ft. Johnson where he served as assistant fire chief of its volunteer fire department. He was also a member of the Sir William Johnson Seniors and served as its tour leader. Arnold was a member of the Golf Course Road United Methodist Church in Amsterdam.
On July 28, 1946 he was united in marriage to the former Elizabeth Whalen.
She predeceased him on August 5, 2003. An infant son, James, and a sister, Eleanor Rothbell, also predeceased him.
His loving family includes his daughters, Mary Maples ? Dutt and her husband Richard and Gloria Putman and her husband Lawrence, all of Amsterdam; four grandchildren, Jennifer and Steven Maples, Alicia and Evan Putman; great-grandchildren: Blake, Brock, Brittany, Victoria, Morgan and Lauren; his sister, Marion Simeone of Harwich, Mass. and nieces and nephews survive.
Services are Wednesday August 24, at 2 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Chaplain David Pilliod officiating. Interment is in Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Wednesday prior to the service from noon to 2 pm. The Sir William Johnson Seniors will gather at 1 pm Wednesday to pay their respects to Arnold. Contributions may be made to the Sir William Johnson Seniors, 420 Opalka Rd., Ft.
