Obituary of Kenneth R. Showerman

Kenneth R. Showerman, 96, of Wheelock Terrace, Buck Rd. Hanover, passed away peacefully Sunday morning at his home after a brief illness. Born in Fonda, NY on July 10, 1909, the son of William and Alice Burke Showerman. He was a 1927 graduate of Fonda High School and was it?s oldest member of the alumni association. He moved to New England in 1955, and to Hanover in 1967 where he has since resided. He was a former member of the Fonda Reformed Church. Kenneth worked for the Perini Construction Company as a timekeeper and office manager until retiring in 1975. He then went on to work at the Country Store in Hanover. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and recently celebrated his ninety?sixth birthday with a special party in his honor. An avid gardener, he especially loved his gladiolus and gave them to family and friends. On July 11, 1931, he was united in marriage to the former Freda Brownell. They were married for nearly sixty-three years until her death on June 2, 1994. His loving family includes his children, John K. and his wife Lorena Showerman of Chelsea VT, Phyllis Healey and her husband Edward of Murrells Inlet SC, Jane Strong and her husband John of Southampton, NY and Evelyn Forsyth and her husband John of Greenfield, NH; six grandchildren: Janice Panasiuk, Lisa Strong Kerstein, Lara Strong Jekely, Nicole Forsyth, Derek Showerman and Alex Showerman; great grandchildren: Kyle and Christopher Panasiuk, Eli Kerstein, Sara and Boldizsar Jekely. Nieces and nephews also survive. Kenneth was predeceased by two brothers, Stanley and Edwin Showerman, and sisters, Florence, Cecil, and Nina. Services are Tuesday Sept. 6, at 2:00 pm at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY with the Rev. Jack Millard officiating. Interment will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill, NY. Relatives and friends are invited and may call from noon until the time of the service on Tuesday. Contributions may be made to a charity of one?s choice.
