Obituary of Clara Barth Smith

Mrs. Clara Barth Smith, 98 years old, life long resident of the Amsterdam area, passed away peacefully on Thursday at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center in Schenectady where she had been a patient for the past several months. She was born May 12, 1907 in Amsterdam a daughter of Richard P. and Anna Enge Barth. Mrs. Smith was the last survivor of 8 siblings. She graduated from Amsterdam High School and later attended Fulton-Montgomery Community College, earning credits in business. She also received a certificate from the American Institute of Banking. In her early years she was secretary to former Judge Charles S. Nesbit. Later she was an office manager for the N.Y.S. Dept. of Transportation in Johnstown, NY until her retirement in 1973. Mrs. Smith married Ralph G. Smith in 1933. He died in 1948. She is survived by a niece and 4 nephews. Clara was a worldwide traveler, touring much of North and South America. She also traveled to Europe and Asia several times. Funeral services will be held a 12 noon Monday at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Burial is in the Ephratah Cemetery. A calling hour will precede the funeral service on Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Montgomery Co.
