Obituary of Ronald E. Streun
Ronald E. Streun, 73, of Swart Hill Rd. passed away Thursday morning at the Mt. Loretto Nursing Home, where he was a patient for one day.
Born in Amsterdam on May 24, 1932, the only child of Ernest and Alice Huptich Streun. He lived here his entire life and was a 1950 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Prior to joining the service, he worked for the Bigelow Sanford Carpet Company. Ron served in the US Army during the Korean War as a military policeman in the 9th Infantry Division. He received the Korean Service Medal, UN Service, Good Conduct and National Defense medals.
Following the war, he began his long career as a printer, working first with the Amsterdam Printing Company, then Baronet Litho and lastly, with Acme Press in Schenectady before he retired in 1994. He was a proud member of the Graphic Communications International Union where he served as a union delegate.
Ron was a dedicated employee and a great family man. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting with his beloved beagles. At one time, he played on the City Night Softball League. He was a member of the Bigelow Weavers Assoc., and the Bengal Club of Reid Hill.
On June 20, 1959, he was united in marriage to the former Dorothy L. Streeter.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his children: Richard C. and his wife Heidi Streun of Amsterdam, Deborah A. Bombard of Broadalbin, Alison L. Streun of Perth and Jeffrey R. and his wife Sandra Streun of Hagaman; he adored his grandchildren, Erica, Marissa, Megan and Jeffrey Streun, and Kyle Rufer. Nieces, nephews and a special cousin, Patricia Machold, also survive.
Services are Monday morning at 11:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. The Rev. Jane Huptschmidt officiating.
Interment with full military honors will take place at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday from 3-6 pm at the funeral home where the Broadalbin American Legion will conduct a service for their departed member at 5:45 pm. Contributions may be made to the Montgomery County SPCA in his memory.
