Obituary of Dominick Raco

Dominick ?Miggie? Raco 84, of Oakland Avenue, passed away peacefully early Monday morning at his home with his family at his side. Born in Amsterdam where he lived his entire life, on Oct. 26, 1920. He was the son of Frank and Bella Graziano Raco. An amature boxer in his youth, he twice won the Golden Glove Boxing Title. For thirty five years, he was employed by the General Electric Company in Schenectady before retiring in 1982. During World War II, he served his country as a boatswain in the US Navy. He was present in Pearl Harbor when it was attacked and received the bronze medal, Pacific Theater Of Operations Medal, as well as the victory medal. Miggie was a communicant of St. Michael The Archangel Roman Catholic Church and a member of the General Electric Quarter Century Club. His family remembers him as a devoted husband, father and grandfather, always willing to lend a helping hand to family and friends alike. He especially loved his garden where he spent many happy hours. On July 22, 1942, he was united in marriage to the former Nellie Valianti. In addition to his beloved wife of sixty three years, he leaves his loving daughters; Maryann and her husband David Wieszchowski of Ft. Hunter, and Donna Lansing of Tribes Hill; brothers, Anthony, Patrick and Frank Raco all of Florida; a sister, Rita ?DeeDee? Tessiero of Ft. Johnson; his adored grandchildren: Dominick Wieszchowski, Herbert Lansing and Dianna Periard; great-grandchildren: Mckensey, Connor and Ethan; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son in law Herbert Lansing , an infant son Dominck Jr., and siblings Georgianna, Alphonso ?Measles?, Richard Raco, Pat Cosentino and recently Rose Sperduto. A Mass Of Christian Burial will be offered at the convenience of the family at St. Michael The Archangel Church. Fr. Brian List, celebrant. Interment is in Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill. Calling hours, to which relatives and friends are invited are Wednesday from 6-8 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home , 171 Guy Park Avenue. Contributions may be made to the St. Jude?s Children?s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude?s Place , Memphis, Tenn., 38105.
