I spent summers with Dodie on Tompkins Ave on Staten Island. I went to public school, but weekends and in the summers she visited her grandparents. I lived across the street from them in my grandmother's house. We had a big yard with swings and Dodie and her cousins used to come to play.
Sometimes at night in the summer we'd catch lightening bugs or play jump rope on the big sidewalk in front of her grandparents' house.
I have good-buddy memories of Dodie. It was by chance that I was visiting Staten Island when the notice of her death appeared.
I am so sorry that she died so young. As wonderful as she was when young, I'm sure she was just as much a friend as an adult.
My heart goes out to all of you who must miss her dearly.
Valerie

Im sorry for your lost and my deepest sympathy goes out to all of you. I can still remember all the times we shared growing up at each other houses and always hanging out. Dodie was a very caring person who always opened up her house and heart to everyone. She was a loving mother, and a loving wife who always had more love to give to anyone that she met. Theres no doubt that she will always be remembered for the amazing person she was.

Dear Scott - It's been a long time since we were together at Bishop Burke but memories of our time there are among my best. I always thought the gals in our class from "downstate" were so brave to go to school so far from home, and it sounds like Dodie was brave until the end. May your family and memories sustain and comfort you at this difficult time. Be assured you are in my prayers.
My sincere condolences.

To all the members of the Retersdorf family,
I can not find the words to tell you how sorry I am for your loss. "There are those people who come into our lifes to teach us, encourage us and to love us. They leave their imprints in our hearts - and we are never the same again." I was fortunate enough to have know Dodie, even for a short while, and she left her imprint in my heart that I will always cherish and hold dear.

My thoughts and prayers are with Dodie's family in this trying time. I worked with her briefly at Lexington Center Baker TBI. She was always very kind, considerate and wonderful with consumers and staff alike. If a helping hand, word of encouragement or bit of wisdom was needed she could be counted on to provide any and all. Bless each one of you that knew and loved Dodie, for I'm sure you carry a bit of her grace and character and are better for having known and loved her.
