Obituary of Francis W. Stanton
Francis W. Stanton, 57, of East Main Street, died Wednesday at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam.
Born September 10, 1948 in Amsterdam, he was the son of late Raymond and Doris Walters Stanton. He was a graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School Class of 1966.
Francis was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War.
Shortly after the Vietnam War he owned and operated Stanton?s Auto on West Main Street in Fonda until retiring in July of 2004 due to ill health. He also worked for a few years on Saturday nights at the Fonda Speedway.
Francis was a member of the Fonda V.F.W.; Hose # 2 of the Fonda Volunteer Fire Department; and he attended St. Cecilia?s Roman Catholic Church in Fonda.
Francis loved spending time with his family, enjoyed his camp on Sacandaga Lake and watching auto racing.
On August 30, 1975 he married the former Florence Moore.
Besides his wife he is survive by his daughter, Anna Stanton of Fonda.
He was predeceased by a brother Raymond Moon Stanton.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday September 24, 2005 at 9:00 a.m. at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, N.Y. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10;00 a.m. at St. Cecilia?s Roman Catholic Church, 26 Broadway in Fonda with the F. Patrick Gallagher OFM as celebrant. Burial will take place in St. Cecilia?s Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
