Obituary of Peter F. Szyjkowski

Peter F. Szyjkowski, 75, of Second Ave, Tribes Hill NY, Entered Eternal Rest on Wednesday evening September 28, 2005 surrounded by his family at his home. Born in Amsterdam, NY on July 22, 1930 a son of Francis and Julia Zurowski Szyjkowski. He was a lifelong area resident and attended the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam. Mr. Szyjkowski served in the U.S. Army as a Corporal and an M.P. during peacetime in Japan. He worked for over 37 years as a sheet metal worker for G.E. in Schenectady until retiring in 1987. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Tribes Hill, NY and served as an Usher and was a Charter Member and Treasurer of the Holy Name Society of the Church. He also was part of the Sacred Heart Rosary Makers Group. He was a member of the Tribes Hill Volunteer Fire Department, and a Cub Scout Master, and was also active in the Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Szyjkowski also served for a time as Town Justice for the Town of Mohawk. He enjoyed working and was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He married Virginia Taboleski Szyjkowski on September 2, 1951. In addition to his loving wife survivor?s include a son, William P. Szyjkowski and his wife Nanci of Goose Creek, SC; a daughter, Lorraine L. Stellato and her husband Anthony of Tribes Hill, NY; a son, James P. Szyjkowski and his wife Lisa of Ringgold, GA; a daughter, Christine M. Jespersen and her husband Scott of New Hampshire; his brother in law, Charles Vassi of Amsterdam; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins and many dear friends also survive. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Francis Szyjkowski, Jr., and a sister, Virginia Vassi. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday October 1, 2005 at 11:30A.M. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Third Ave, Tribes Hill, NY with the Rev. Pascal Iannotti as celebrant and Father Kevin Kenney as con-celebrant. Interment will be on Monday October 3, 2005 at 11:00A.M.in Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill, NY with full military honors. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday September 30th, 2005 form 4-7P.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the Amsterdam Community Cancer Center Program, Riverfront Center, Amsterdam, NY, to the Tribes Hill Volunteer Fire Department or to the Sacred Heart Church Rosary Makers Group, Third Ave, Tribes Hill, NY 12177.
