Obituary of Joseph S. Depa
Joseph S. Depa, 89, of North Hillman Rd. Delanson, a former Amsterdam resident, passed away peacefully Friday morning at the Stratton V.A. Medical Center in Albany.
Born in Amsterdam on March 28, 1916, the son of Andrew and Anna Depa, he was educated locally. For over thirty years, he was employed as a welder for General Electric in Schenectady before he retired in 1978. During World War II, he served with the US Army as a staff sergeant and drill instructor. Joseph and his wife lived in the Amsterdam and Broadalbin area before he moved to Delanson.
He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus? Roman Catholic Church.
Joe loved to fish and was an excellent carpenter. He was a member of the G.E. Quarter Century Club.
His wife, the former Elsie Brach, predeceased him on May 5, 1984.
Also, his siblings, Bernard and Mary Depa, Catherine Dykla, Violet Squillace and Bernice Picinich all predeceased him.
He is survived by his sons; Robert and his wife Dolores Depa of Amsterdam; Terrance Depa of Sweetwater, Tenn.; and Joseph J. Depa of Delanson; daughters;
Cynthia and her husband Michael Martin of Clifton Park, and Judy Grybos of Amsterdam; a brother; Raymond and his wife Kay Depa of Waynesboro, Va., six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Services are private at the convenience of the family. Interment is in St. Joseph?s Cemetery, Ft. Johnson. There are no calling hours and contributions may be made to the Mariaville Volunteer Ambulance Corps., in care of the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, to whom the family has entrusted his arrangements.
