Obituary of Jean Van Avery Selby
Jean Van Avery Selby, 79, passed away peacefully Saturday morning at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility after a lengthy illness.
Born in Amsterdam on Dec. 13, 1925, the daughter of the late Claude and Inez Rhodes Van Avery. She graduated from business school and worked for many years at St. Mary?s Hospital as a payroll clerk, retiring in June of 1979.
In 1981, she moved to the Town of Hope, residing there until her illness.
Jean loved nature and enjoyed living in the Adirondacks with her husband.
On April 27, 1974, she was united in marriage to James B. Selby. He passed away on Dec. 10, 1995.
Her loving family includes her only sibling, her sister Marjorie Farina of Amsterdam; twin nieces, Francine Farina of Albany and Jeannine Farina of Amsterdam; a step son, Timothy and his wife Millie Selby of Slingerlands; a step daughter, Nancy and her husband Frank VanWormer of Amsterdam; five step-grandchildren, one step great-grandchild and cousins.
Services are Tuesday at 11:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue with the Rev. Robert Smith officiating. Interment will take place in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday from 5-8 pm at the funeral home.
