Obituary of Thomas W. McGaffin

Mr. Thomas W. McGaffin, 53 years old of Hewitt Street, died Thursday at St. Mary?s Hospital. Mr. McGaffin was born March 26, 1952 in Amsterdam, the son of James and Virginia Topping McGaffin. He was a life long resident of Amsterdam and a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Mr. McGaffin was employed by General Electric Co. in Schenectady for over 30 years. He attended St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church and was a member of the Irish-American Club and of the Reid Hill Fish and Game Club. Tom loved taking care of his yard which included the birds that he welcomed there. He was well known for his wonderful sense of humor. On August 24, 1974 Tom married the former Judith M. Ochal who survives. Also surviving are his mother-in-law Emilie Ochal of Amsterdam; his 2 sons Thomas J. and Timothy J. McGaffin of Amsterdam; his daughters Emy J. McGaffin-Rollins and her husband Kwesi, of Enfield, Conn. and Valarie L. McGaffin of Davenport, Iowa; his 2 sisters JoAnn McGaffin of Amsterdam and Barbara Sherman of Hagaman. Tom is also survived by several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held 8:30am Monday at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, followed at 9:30am by a Funeral Mass at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, 73 Reid Street, celebrated by The Rev. David Mickiewicz. Burial is in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 2:00pm until 5:00pm at the funeral home.
