"Mr. Brown" was my first "real" boss and mentor. Back in 1976, Marie my wife & I came up from the "city" to find me a job as a chemist. I found Knight Oil and Bob and Ed hired me in 2 hours. If it wasn't for thet eventful day, we wouldn't have gotten married, moved upstate and had 2 great sons. I cut my teeth at Knight Oil and learned from the best.
A little story - Bob was a little vain about his hearing and sometimes turned off his hearing aid. We received the latest copy of the Fisher Scientific Catalog an enormous, hard cover catalog that cost $50. Bob asked me if I wanted the old copy and I said yes, since my own was over 5 years old. He said OK and tossed it into the garbage. I fished it out later.
"Mr. Brown", if you can read this - thank you!

Mrs. Marie Brown, Sunny, Morton, Ahne, Stephen, Bob Brown, Jr. and Roxana Vuskalns-
At the age of 22 in 1982 with chemistry degree in hand during double digit inflation, I accepted the only local job offer that I had involving lab work. It came from Bob Brown, Sr. ?Mr. Brown?, as we respectfully called him. Fortunately, Mr. Brown was not only my supervisor, but my mentor as well. For the next 18 years, he taught me to design product formulations in the lab, then to upscale them in production. Additionally, he introduced me to many top scientists and regulatory professionals affiliated within the chemical specialties industry. I will always be successful in the chemical profession because of this solid foundation he provided me.
Mr. Brown was never big on small talk. Employees, therefore, always had a consistent game-plan to follow. Being a true professional and never insecure, he was able to handle personal and corporate stress without having to relieve himself by mistreating his employees.
Mr. Brown also had a great sense of humor. For example, around 1990 when he was semi-retired, he asked me for a mid-season update on the newly formed corporate softball team. I said our team may get dissolved due to the liability concern should out-of-the-park home run balls fall into the street, thus causing accidents. His response was, ?There shouldn?t be a concern. I?ve seen how the team plays!?
I will always think of Mr. Brown as my second father. I will never forget him.

Dear Brown Family:
I knew Bob for over 35 years. He was a client of mine for most of that time.
I always enjoyed when he came into my office to see me, whether it was to talk business or to just chew the fat about anything that was topical at that time.
Bob was a fine gentleman,in fact a gentleman's gentleman. They don't make them like that anymore.
