Obituary of Raymond J Flansburg

Raymond J. Flansburg, 75, of 2 Michael Circle, Johnstown NY, died Thursday, December 8, 2005 at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville. Mr. Flansburg was born May 29, 1930 in Gloversville, the son of John and Anna Johnson Flansburg. He was educated in the Gloversville Schools. Mr. Flansburg is a veteran of the Korean Conflict, and was a hand-to-hand combat instructor for the Army. After returning from military service, Mr. Flansburg worked at General Electric in Schnecectady. For 22 years, he worked in the Turbine Division. He also worked as part-time driver for Brown Coach company in Amsterdam. Mr. Flansburg was a devoted and active member of the North Main Street United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher, greeter, and member of the choir. He will also be fondly remembered for his love of fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Advisory Council for the Office of the Aging, and was a member of the Johnstown, Gloversville, and Caroga Lake Senior Citizens clubs. On June 17, 1951, Mr. Flansburg was married to the former Harriet Pierce, who survives. Also surviving are his son, Lincoln Flansburg of Caroga Lake, daughter Penny Lee Maybury of Gloversville, and siblings John Flansburg and Eleanor Bronk of Gloversville, and Phyllis Holland of Florida. Seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. Flansburg was predeceased by a brother, Edward. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 PM Friday at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held Saturday at 1:30 P.M. with the Rev. Chris Hamm officiating. Interment will take place at FernDale Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial Contributions in his memory may be made to North Main St. United Methodist Church, 316 N. Main St. Gloversville, NY 12078.
