Obituary of Stanley B. Gryscavage

Stanley B. Gryscavage, 82, of Church St., Amsterdam, passed away unexpectedly Monday evening December 12, 2005 at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam. Born in Ashley, PA on March 4, 1923, he was the son of Vincent and Alexandria Okuniewski Gryskiewicz. Mr. Gryscavage grew up and attended school in PA. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps before World War II. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre in Wake Island and Okinawa. He received a Purple Heart for wounds received during combat. After the war, he moved to Amsterdam and worked for the Bigelow Sanford Carpet Mills. He also worked for a time at the Scotia, NY Naval Depot. He then went to work for several years at the General Electric Company in Schenectady as a tool crib operator, retiring from there in 1987. He was a past commander of the VFW Post 55 in Amsterdam. He was a communicant of St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. Mr. Gryscavage loved gardening, especially after his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with his only grandchild Andrew. He is survived by his wife Marion Hage Gryscavage whom he married on July 4, 1948. In addition to his wife, survivors include three daughters, Christine R. Gryscavage of Amsterdam, Joan A. Gryscavage of Gloversville and Paula M. Gryscavage of Amsterdam; one brother, Vincent Gryscavage Louise of Royersford, Pennsylvania and one grandson, Andrew Gryscavage of Endicott, New York. Several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was pre-deceased by two brothers, Edward and Francis, and two sisters, Edna and Stella. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2005 at 10:15AM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15AM at St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. Interment will be in St. Mary?s Cemetery, Ft. Johnson, New York with full military honors. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 3-7PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary?s Institute, Upper Church St. Amsterdam, New York, 12010.
