Obituary of Ralph E. Ostrander
Mr. Ralph E. Ostrander, 67, of Fultonham, New York passed away Thursday, January 19, 2006 at home after losing a long battle with cancer.
Born on June 17, 1938 in Walton, NY he was the son of the late Ralph D. Ostrander and Ruth Gifford Ostrander. He attended local schools and graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1955.
In July of 1955 Ralph joined the Navy. He served primarily at sea assignments on several destroyers and escorts. He was honorably discharged in September of 1962 as a Storekeeper First Class SK1.
In 1966 Ralph graduated from the Utica College of Syracuse University. He was an avid fan of the Syracuse Orangemen.
Ralph was employed by the Utica School of Commerce as a professor of Accounting and was also self- employed as a C.P.A. up until the spring of 2005. He had also worked for the CPA firm Ropan and Pepe. He also volunteered his time at the Schoharie County Office of the Aging, and served as an accountant for the town of Fulton. He was also a member of the American Legion of Whitesboro, New York.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Echtner, whom he married on August 10, 1991; his mother, Ruth Ostrander; one daughter, Beth Warner of Gloversville, New York; two sons, Ralph D. Ostrander and his wife Lana of Arlington, Virginia; and Thomas E. Ostrander and his wife Kristin of Saratoga Springs, New York; two step-daughters, Vicki Tomlinson and her husband James of Ft. Plain, New York; and Christina Isabella of Volante, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Judith Guisti and her husband Robert of Tribes Hill, New York; and Samantha Fondacaro and her husband Joseph of Hagaman, New York; ten grandchildren, Augustus, Frederick, Luke, Kara, Barceem, Jacob, Joshua, Jesse, James and Cassandra; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his first wife, Elizabeth Arnold Hughes of Mayfield, New York.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2006 Today at 11a.m. at the Covenant Presbyterian Church, 7 Trinity Place, Amsterdam, New York with Pastor Timothy Gregson officiating. Cremation took place at Vale Crematory in Schenectady, New York. Memorial contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, 327 West Main Street, Suite 3, Cobleskill, New York, 12043.
