Obituary of Herman Lanphere
Mr. Herman Lanphere, age 81, of Gloversville, died Friday morning, May 25, 2006 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, following a long illness.
He was born October 27, 1924 in Gloversville, a son of the late Herman S. and Sylvia B. Pettit Lanphere. A 1943 graduate of Gloversville High School, Herman served in the US Army in the 8th armored division during WWII. Following the war he worked at the Scotia Naval Depot, then at the Schenectady Army Depot, and then for 17 years as a letter carrier for the Gloversville Post Office until his retirement.
Mr. Lanphere was Past Master of Gloversville Masonic Lodge #429 now St. Patrick?s Lodge. He enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing.
Herman is survived by three siblings, Alyce M. Lanphere, Robert ?Lamie? Lanphere Marilyn and Shirley J. Lanphere, all of Gloversville; and a nephew, Gregory S. Lanphere. He was preceded in death by another nephew, Robert ?Chops? Lanphere.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm Sunday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St.; Gloversville, where a funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm with the Rev. Carson O. Mouser officiating. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
