Obituary of Julia Martuscello
Julia Martuscello, 91, of Upper Van Dyke Avenue, passed away peacefully Saturday morning at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility with her family at her side. She had been a patient there for one week.
Born in Amsterdam on November 22, 1914, the daughter of Stefano and Angelina Colucci Picciocca, she lived here her entire life and was educated locally.
A glove maker for many years before she retired, she worked for Amsterdam Glove Company.
Julia was a lifelong parishioner of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church; she was a member of its Santa Sofia Society.
Her beloved husband Leo Martuscello, a well-known Amsterdam barber and co-owner of LuMart Shoes, predeceased her on May 1, 1973.
Brothers, Anthony and John Picciocca, and sisters, Jennie Agresta and Mary DeMeo also predeceased her.
Her loving family includes her son, Vito L. Martuscello of Amsterdam; grandchildren, Michael Martuscello, Jacqueline Anthony Meola and Renee Troy Butler; great grandchildren, Dominic and Maria Meola, Aiden Martuscello and Sophia Butler; brother, Samuel Sophie Picciocca; sisters, Stefanie ?Fannie? Masto and Theresa Bilinski all of Amsterdam; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services are Tuesday at 8:15 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 am at St. Michael the Archangel Church with Fr. Lawrence J. Decker celebrant. Interment is in St. Michael?s Cemetery.
Calling hours are Monday from 5-8 pm. Contributions may be made to St. Michael?s Memorial Fund, in care of the funeral home office. Julia?s family would like to thank the caring staff at Wilkinson for their kindness and care which was a great comfort to her.
