Obituary of Francesco DiScenza
Frank DiScenza, 76, of Lincoln Ave., Amsterdam, passed away Monday afternoon June 12, 2006 at his home with his family at his side.
Born in Amsterdam, NY on August 15, 1929. He was a son of Angelo and Mary Gargano DiScenza. He was a lifelong Amsterdam resident and attended local schools. He served in the National Guard from 1945-1953 in Company G., in Amsterdam.
Mr. DiScenza was a self-employed carpenter for many years. He was a member of the Carpenters Union and was a parishioner of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. He also was a member of the American Legion John J. Wyszomirski Post 701 in Amsterdam.
When Frank wasn?t working as a carpenter he enjoyed spending time with his family. He enjoyed cooking for his family especially his grandchildren. They would always look forward to their grandfather?s specialties.
He was married to Virginia Yowell DiScenza who he enjoyed many years with.
In addition to his wife survivors include two sons, Brian DiScenza and his wife Joyce Hannan of Andover, Massachusetts, Dean DiScenza and his wife Karen of Hagaman, New York; two daughters, Suzanne DiScenza of Albany and Heather DiScenza Lee of Amsterdam; one stepson, Thomas DeVito and sisters, Angela Greenspan of Overland Park, Kansas and Edie Landrio and husband Sal of Amsterdam.
His grandchildren, Anthony Lee, Amber DiScenza and Ashley Rodriguez were by their grandfather?s side and took care of him during his illness. Other grandchildren include, Nicole and Andrew Arndt, and Taylor Rose DeVito. He is also survived by one great grandson Austin Arndt; his local nieces and nephews: his godchild, Patricia Allen and her husband Ken, Lucille Sparrow and her husband Irving, Dennis Landrio and Michael Yowell; his good friends, Larry and Bonnie Lewis. Other nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday June 15, 2006 at 9:15A.M. at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church with Father Lawrence J. Decker as celebrant. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery Tribes Hill, New York. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday this evening June 14th, 2006 from 6:00-8:00P.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Amsterdam, Manny?s Corners Rd. Amsterdam, NY 12010.
