Obituary of Lewis J. DiCaterino

Lewis J. DiCaterino, 88, of Academy Street, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility. He was born in Amsterdam on August 12, 1917, the son of Ralph and Michalena Guiliani DiCaterino and was educated locally. During World War II, he proudly served with the US Navy attaining the rank of Petty Officer Second Class, in the Pacific Theater on the USS Miami. He was awarded six battle stars. Prior to the war, he was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. Lewis later began a career with the General Electric Company, which spanned thirty-seven years as a crane repairman, and served as a shop steward for ten years. During his tenure at GE, he received the highest suggestion award ever earned by an employee of the Schenectady Utilities Operation. He was a communicant of St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 55, American Legion John J. Wyszomirski Post 701, the Sons of Italy and the USS Miami Association. In his retirement, Lewis loved to travel and spend time gardening. On September 1, 1940, he was united in marriage to the former Constance Traczyk. In addition to his beloved wife of sixty-five years, he is survived by a son, Lewis DiCaterino of Amsterdam; daughters, Beverly Moran and her husband Kevin of Corinth; Kathleen DiBlasi and her husband Joseph and Ann DiCaterino and her husband John Dunne all of Amsterdam; four grandchildren, Joey and Lisa DiBlasi and John and Jessica Dunne; a sister, Nancy Viscusi as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by sisters, Elizabeth Pepe, Laura Ecobelli, Betty Wright and Joanna DiCarlo, as well as brothers, Danny, Jimmy, Hank and Ralph DiCaterino. Services are Saturday at 8:15 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:15 am at St. Mary?s Church. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Friday from 5-7 pm at the funeral home. Burial, with military honors will take place in St. Stanislaus? Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer?s Disease Assoc. in care of the funeral home office.
