Obituary of Agnes Carter

Mrs. Agnes Carter, 87 years old of East Main Street, Ft. Johnson, died Friday at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam. She was born April 13, 1919 in West Leydon, NY, a daughter of Frank and Wilhelmina Wilbert Miller. She moved to Amsterdam in 1926 and to Ft. Johnson in 1939 where she had since resided. Mrs. Carter was employed by Things Shoe Store and then by Triangle Shoe Store retiring as manager in 1963. She then went on to manage Fort Oil Co. in Ft. Johnson until 1999. She enjoyed her work and loved talking to her customers. Mrs. Carter was a communicant of St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. She married Edwin D. Carter April 29, 1939. He died January 1, 1985. Mrs. Carter is survived by her daughter Barbara White and her husband Larry of St. Cloud, Florida and her 3 sons: David Carter and his wife Linda of Ft. Johnson, Thomas Carter, Sr. and his wife Rose Mary of Fonda and James Carter and his wife Gail of Marietta, Ohio. Her 10 grandchildren are Colleen Selkirk, Maureen Schock, Michele Carter, Thomas Carter, Jr., Tracey Pabis, Christy Carter, Lisa Carter, James Carter, Jr., Melissa Rheinhart and Michael Carter. Mrs. Carter is also survived by step grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 12:15pm Tuesday at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, followed at 1:00pm by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church. Burial is in Hagaman Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends Monday from 5 until 8:00pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions: Ft. Johnson Volunteer Fire Dept., 1 Ft.
