One of my earliest memories of Volkert was when he helped me with my 4th grade history project. He loaned me many of the antiquities he collected while in Europe which won me first place. I enjoyed the many interesting conversations with Volkert over the years that he spent with my parents and appreciate the help and companionship he gave to my mother after Dad died. My sisters and I caught the genealogy bug from Volkert and continue his work. We will miss him.

Volkert was not only a cousin but also a great friend. He loved to talk about our family tree and the family history with us when ever we saw him. We will greatly miss him.

Anyone who had the opportunity to work with Volkert knows of his passion for Montgomery County and his unflagging support of All Things Historic in the County. I had the lucky opportunity to work with Volkert through the Heritage Society, as a fellow historian, and, through my wife Stella, at the Fonda Fair. To me, he was a supporter, a community involvement role model, and an advisor. I will miss him and his knowledge and advice greatly. He was truly one-of-a-kind. Please accept my deepest condolences.

Mr. Volkert was always a terrific friend to the Library. I will never forget all the help he gave the children when they did the "I Spy Project". He made history come alive for the children as they researched the area's historical sites. He will be missed by all.
