Obituary of J. Austin Mulhall

Mr. J. Austin Mulhall, 100, of Christman Place, passed away Monday evening at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam after a brief illness. Born on April 25, 1906 in Ilion, NY he was the son of the late James and Jane Hannah Enser Mulhall. When Austin was young he moved to Amsterdam with his family. He has been a city resident for 92 years and attended Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Mr. Mulhall attended Reynolds Business School in Amsterdam before going to work for Bigelow- Hartford Carpet Co. The company then merged with Stephen Sanford & Sons in 1929. He held various positions with the company before working his way up to purchasing agent. Mr. Mulhall also held the position of sealer of weights and measures for the city of Amsterdam and the county. Mr. Mulhall was drafted in to WWII and spent three years with the Air Force. Mr. Mulhall was an extensive traveler with his wife and saw many sights. Mr. Mulhall was predeceased by his wife Ruth Beck in 1989. His loving family includes one nephew, a niece, several great and great grand nieces and nephews, and several close friends. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Evangelical Church. Interment will follow in Greenhill cemetery with military honors. Calling hours will be held this evening Thursday from 4 until 7 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church or to the charity of one?s choice, in care of the funeral home.
