Obituary of Irene Elizabeth Smith

Irene Elizabeth Borden Smith, 100, Hickory Hill Road, passed away Monday morning at the St. Mary?s Hospital. Born May 26, 1906 in the Town of Glen, New York, she was the daughter of Burton and Carrie Lathers Borden. She attended Fultonville High School. Irene was employed by the Premier Glove in Fultonville from 1943 to 1968 when she retired. She was a member of the Iroquois Seniors; Glen Mohawk Seniors; D.A.R.; and the Fonda Reformed Church. On October 27, 1940 she married Harold E. Smith who died March 12, 1993. She was predeceased by a brother Floyd Borden who died in 1978 and a sister Ada Mae Fryers who died in 1996. Survivors include several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1:00 PM at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, New York with the Rev. Christopher De Graaf and the Rev. Jay Hine officiating. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Sand Flats, Fonda, New York. It was Irene?s request that there will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Irene?s memory to the Fonda Reformed Church, 19- 21 Broadway, Fonda, New York 12068 or to the Fonda- Fultonville Methodist Church, Fultonville, New York 12072.
