Obituary of Richard D. Summerfield

Mr. Richard D. Summerfield Jr; age 55, died Tuesday morning, July 4, 2006 at his home in Gloversville. He was born September 27, 1950 in Cooperstown, NY, the son of Richard D. Summerfield, Sr. and the late Arlene Bailey Summerfield. A 1968 graduate of Canajoharie High School, he was also a 1981 graduate of Fulton Montgomery Community College where received a degree in Accounting and Business Administration. Dick later became a self-employed general contractor for several years. In 1975 he enlisted in the Army where he served for two years until 1977. He was shipping supervisor at the former H & J Leather Corporation in Johnstown for 15 years, and then became employed at Beech-Nut Nutrition Corp. in Canajoharie until the onset of his illness last year. An avid golfer, Dick was a member of Concordia Singing Society in Gloversville, and was a former member of the Johnstown Fish and Game Club. He was married on December 28, 1996 to Lisa A. Voudry who survives. Also surviving are his three sons, Rodney Summerfield and Scott Summerfield of Gloversville, and Shayne Summerfield of Johnstown; his father, Richard D. Summerfield Sr. of Rural Grove; three stepsons, Edward, Richard and Nicholas; four brothers, Vincent Summerfield Gail of Endicott, Jeffrey Summerfield Susan of Amsterdam, Timothy Summerfield Cindi of Nelliston and William Summerfield Leslie of Canajoharie; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 pm Thursday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Friday. Interment will take place at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown.
