Obituary of Jules L. Koenig
Mr. Jules L. Koenig, 84 of Gloversville, died Friday at Nathan Littauer Hospital with his family at his side. He was born December 28, 1921 in Albany, N.Y. son of the late Herman and Helen Smuckler Koenig. Mr. Koenig was a 1940 graduate of Gloversville High School and attended Bryant College in Providence, R.I. He then entered the Army and served in the infantry as a heavy machine gun operator during battles in Northern France, Rhineland and Normandy. Injured in the line of duty, Mr. Koenig was subsequently transferred to the Army Air Corps. He was formally discharged in January of 1946.Jules was extremely proud of his military service and the honor of serving his country. After returning to Gloversville, he joined his family business, Twin City Waste and Metal, which his father began during the Depression. The business was closed in 1983. Mr. Koenig enjoyed gardening, cooking and was especially fond of building models of various military items and equipment. He also enjoyed a regular coffee clutch with various friends for years. Mr. Koenig was married to Mildred Burick Koenig on June 16, 1946. She pre-deceased him in 2005. Survivors include his children; Stephen A. Koenig and his wife Robin of Gloversville, Mark A. Koenig and his wife Cindy of Thousand Oaks, CA., his grandchildren: Todd Koenig and his companion Tanya Orsell, Joseph Koenig and his fiancée Kim Watts and Marie Koenig. He is also survived by cousins. Mr. Koenig was pre-deceased by a sister, Betty Saltzburg. A funeral service will be conducted 10 am Monday from the Knesseth Israel Synagogue with Rabbi Martin Gordon officiating. Burial will be in Knesseth Israel Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to the Knesseth Israel Synagogue, 34 E. Fulton St. Gloversville. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville.
