Obituary of Mariana Rivera

Mariana ?Mayan? Rivera, 75, of Romeyn Avenue, passed away peacefully Monday evening at Ellis Hospital. Born on March 17, 1931 in Yauco, Puerto Rico, she was the only daughter of the late Camillo and Antonia Justinano Caraballo and moved to Amsterdam in 1951 where she has since lived. Mayan was employed for over twenty-three years by Coleco Industries as an assembler before she retired in 1988. She was a devout parishioner of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church and a member of the Hispanic Seniors and the former Spanish American Club. The beloved matriarch of the Rivera family, she served as a caregiver to her late husband, and later also lovingly nurtured her grandchildren and more recently her great grandchildren. She was united in marriage to Domingo Rivera on April 26, 1946. He predeceased her on June 22, 1994. Also, her dear son, Nelson Rivera passed away. She leaves behind her children: sons, Dominick and his wife Valerie Rivera of Niskayuna, Louis and his wife Michelle Rivera of Monroe, Ohio and Irving and his wife Carol Rivera of Amsterdam; daughters, Milagro Rivera and Evelyn and her husband Emilio Suarez all of Amsterdam; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; three brothers, Primitivo and Juan Carabello of Puerto Rico and Luis Carabello of Seattle, Washington; nieces, nephews and her special buddy, Cotton, the cat. Services are Friday at 8:15 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass Of Christian Burial at 9:15 am at St. Michael the Archangel Church with Fr. Lawrence J. Decker, celebrant. Interment is in St. Michael?s Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 4-8 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in Mayan?s memory to her favorite charity, the St. Jude?s Children?s Research Hospital, in care of the funeral home office.
