Obituary of William H. Van Allen

William H. Van Allen, Jr., 80, of Division St., Amsterdam, passed away Wednesday August 2, 2006 at St. Mary?s Hospital with his family at his side. Born in Amsterdam, New York on August 20, 1925 a son of William H. and Elizabeth Bont Van Allen Sr. He was a lifelong resident of Amsterdam and was a graduate of St. Mary?s Institute in Amsterdam. Mr. Van Allen was a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps serving in the Panama Canal and the Pacific during World War II. After the war he was employed for the General Electric Company in Schenectady, New York. He worked for over 40 years as a Gas Turbine Supervisor. He was a parishioner of both St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church and St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church both in Amsterdam. Mr. Van Allen also was a member for many years of the Amsterdam Municipal Golf Course. He also enjoyed bowling in different leagues in Amsterdam and for General Electric. He married Jane Evelyn Marks Van Allen on May 29, 1948. In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Patricia J. Van Allen of Amsterdam and Linda Ann Luzinas of Blossvale, New York; one son, Michael W. Van Allen and his wife Marilyn of Amsterdam; one sister, Rosemary Francisco and her husband Robert Francisco, Sr. of the Town of Florida; one brother, Robert Van Allen and his wife Madeline of Amsterdam; three grandchildren, David and his wife Elizabeth Van Allen of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Jeffrey Van Allen of Albany, New York and Patrick Luzinas of Blossvale, New York and two great-grandchildren, Aaliyah and Tyanna Van Allen, both of Amsterdam. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Mr. Van Allen was predeceased by a son in law, Eric J. Luzinas who passed away on October 29, 2002. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 8:15 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15am at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, Grove St. Amsterdam with the Rev. Lawrence Decker as celebrant. Interment will take place n Fairview Cemetery with full military honors. Relatives and friends are invited and may call from 4 until 8 Sunday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Kidney Foundation in care of the funeral home.
