Obituary of Herbert Benjamin Jones

Mr. Herbert Benjamin Jones, 85, of Highland Terrace, Fort Plain, passed away Saturday evening at St. Elizabeth?s Hospital in Utica. Born on June 3, 1921 in Canajoharie, he was the son of the late Herbert and Robie Lettice Jones. He was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools. Mr. Jones was of the Lutheran faith. He was employed as a carpenter and for the Town of Canajoharie and later as a security officer for Beechnut. Mr. Jones also served in WWII in the United States Army. He served from February 1944 until January of 1946 in the European Theatre. He is survived by his wife, the former Barbara M. Goodemote, who he married on August 5, 1940; four daughters, Beth A. Fassett Lauren of East Springfield, New York; Karen A. Cromie James of Glendale, Arizona, Diane L. Jones of Tarrytown, New York and Robin K. Saltsman David of Canajoharie, New York; three sons, David H. Jones Josephine of Canajoharie, New York, Dr. Daniel R. Jones, of Denver, Colorado, and Clark C. Jones Ruth Ann of Bayard, West Virginia; 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Jones was predeceased by two brothers, Frank and Harry Jones. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday evening at 6p.m. at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie with the Rev. Gail Wolling presiding. Private inurnment will take place in the Ft. Plain Cemetery. A calling hour will precede the funeral from 5 until 6. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. John?s & St. Mark?s Lutheran Church, Church Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317 or to St. Jude?s Children?s Cancer Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
