Obituary of Joseph B. Sorbero
Joseph B. Sorbero, 77, of Princeton Street passed away Wednesday evening at Albany Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born on March 11, 1929 in Amsterdam, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Rubina Tagliaferro Sorbero. He was educated locally and was a 1948 graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School.
Joseph retired after a career that spanned many years from the New York State Thruway Authority.
During the Korean War, he served with the US Army.
He was a communicant of St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 209, and the B.P.O. Elks Lodge 101 both of Amsterdam. Joseph and his wife enjoyed traveling and spending time with their family.
On June 21, 1959, he was united in marriage to the former Emily Mele.
In addition to his beloved wife, he leaves his daughters, Maria and her husband Glenn Alexaitis of Glenmont, NY, and Joanne and her husband Richard Wenke of Saratoga Springs, NY; Joe enjoyed spending time with his loving grandchildren, Cara and Ryan Alexaitis of Glenmont, and Emily and Sara Wenke of Saratoga Springs; brothers, Anthony, Thomas Sorbero and John Steele all of Amsterdam; sisters, Lucia Norcian of Rotterdam Junction and Carmela Brooks of Schenectady and nieces and nephews.
Joseph was predeceased by sisters, Mary Murrane and Rose Sorbero, and a brother, Frank Sorbero.
Services are Monday morning at 8:15 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 am at St. Mary?s Church. Entombment will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Mausoleum, Niskayuna with military honors. Calling hours are Sunday from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in his memory to the St. Mary?s Church Development Fund or the American Heart Assoc. both in care of the funeral home office.
