Obituary of Josephine A. Sokalski
Josephine A. Sokalski, 87, of Austin Street, passed away Sunday afternoon at St. Mary?s Hospital.
Born in Amsterdam on Feb. 26, 1919, she was the daughter of Joseph and Anna Wozniak; she attended St. Stanislaus? Elementary School.
She worked for several local manufacturing companies and also St. Mary?s Hospital. Josie made many friends during her employment years due to her kind and fun loving nature, bringing happiness to all she met. She enjoyed gardening and bingo. She loved her Polish heritage, especially the music and dancing. The true ?Life of the Party? will be missed. She was a lifelong communicant of St. Stanislaus? Roman Catholic Church and was a member of St. Casimir?s and St. John?s Seniors.
Her two children were lucky to be born to a wonderful woman who taught them all the beautiful lessons and values of life, especially the importance of family.
Josie is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Livingston and her husband Frederick of Queensbury; her son, James Sokalski and his wife Marilyn of Amsterdam; her sister, Helen Piotrowski of Amsterdam and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was the special ?Baci? to Frank, Deborah, Jacqueline and Julianne; and ?Super Baci? to Frank, Anthony, Vincent, Jacqueline, Piersson and Lindsay.
Her beloved husband of forty years, Francis Sokalski predeceased her in 1979, as well as two sisters, Mary Kiskis, Stella Opalka, and a brother, William Wozniak.
Josie had a heart of gold, and placed everyone before herself. As an exceptional wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she will be greatly missed.
Services are Thursday at 9:45 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Funeral Mass, which will be celebrated at 10:30 am at St. Stanislaus? Church with Fr. David Mickiewicz, celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Stanislaus? Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Wilkinson Activities Fund, or the American Heart Assoc. both in care of the funeral home office.
