Obituary of Walter L. Playford

Walter L. Playford Sr., 67, of Fairmont Ave, Amsterdam, passed away suddenly Wednesday August 30, 2006 at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam. Born in Amsterdam on August 14, 1939 a son of Arthur D. and Mary Porath Playford. He was a life long Amsterdam resident and was a graduate of Amsterdam schools. Mr. Playford worked for over 30 years at the General Electric Company in Schenectady. He worked in the Gas Turbine Department as a tester before retiring in 1997. Walter loved weekends up at the lake with his family; his hobbies included small engine repair and a good challenge. He always spent his time especially weekends playing around with his beloved grandchildren and praising his house. Mr. Playford married Marian Ella Rose Playford on his birthday on August 14, 1960. In addition to his loving wife, survivors include one son, Walter L. Playford Jr. and his wife Suzanne; one daughter, Linda D. Ryder and her husband David; two granddaughters, Carlee and Jessica Ryder and two brothers, Arthur D. Playford of Amsterdam and James H. Playford of Syracuse. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00A.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam with the Rev. John Califano presiding. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday Today from 5-8:00P.M. at the funeral home.
