Nelson was a student of mine. He attended an adult education program I coordinated. The determination he demonstrated and encouragement he shared with others who were struggling were indicative of the caring and determined person he was. He was proud of his family. I was a guest in his home for a celebration. He and his family were warm and welcoming. He became a treasured friend - the kind that always wishes the best for you and will make you feel treasured. I enjoyed our infrequent phone calls that allowed us to "catch up". I will always remember his quick smile, heart felt hugs and easy manner. May God bless him and keep him. With much love, I will miss you.

Nelson, it is so difficult to accept the fact that you are gone. You were truly one of the best people I have ever met or had the pleasure to work with. Had it not been for you and your help, when I started as a letter carrier 9 years ago, I don't think I ever would have passed probation. Nelson was so proud to have a route in Glenville. He introduced himself as Nelson Mandela Rockefeller with a smile. Later he told me his real name. In the short time I knew him I admired him for his sense of himor, his love of his work, and his love of life and people. May he rest in peace and his family, we hope, wil find the strength to carry on, relishing his memories.

I am so sorry to hear of Nelson's passing. He was one of the nicest people I have had the pleasure to work with. He always had a smile on his face and never harsh word to anyone.
