Obituary of Walter F. Redznak

Walter F. Redznak, 92, of Highland Avenue, passed away on Friday at Montgomery Meadows in Amsterdam after a long illness. Born June 27, 1914 in Elizabeth?s Port, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Damien and Mary Wojcik Redznak. He lived most of his life in the Fort Johnson area and attended St. Stanislaus School. Walter was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, where he served in the Pacific as a cook. He first owned and operated a luncheonette called Walt the Hot Dog King on Church Street in Amsterdam, he later was employed by General Electric Company in Schenectady for 28 years. Walter was a parishioner and very devoted to St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. He was also a member of the Holy Name Society of the church. He loved to cook and enjoyed collecting railroad trains of all scales. On July 5, 1936, he married the former Anna Kenock. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Walter Redznak and his wife Carol of Norwood, Massachusetts and Richard Redznak and his wife Alexandra of St. Johnsbury, Vermont; three daughters, Caroline Natoli and her husband Martin of Hagaman, NY, Mary Ann Koval and her husband David of Roswell, Georgia and Kathleen Dresner and her husband Charles of Tribes Hill, NY; a sister, Lillian Truax of Virginia; twenty grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian to be celebrated at 11:00 am at St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church, East Main Street, Amsterdam. Burial will take place in St. Mary?s Cemetery in Fort Johnson with full military honors. Calling hours will take place on Monday from 5 to 7 pm at the funeral home.
