Obituary of Anita Castiglione

Mrs. Anita Castiglione, age 92 of Gloversville, died at her home on Saturday, October 7, 2006. She was born on July 5, 1914 in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of the late Constantine and Catherine Seradiac Carayas. She was employed by Macy?s of New York as a cosmetic buyer, and met and married her husband, Louis J. Castiglione. Together they owned and operated GEM Footwear, and for many years Castiglione Jewelers. Anita worked into her eighties with her dedication of service to her customers at Castiglione Jewelers. The business continues to thrive in Gloversville for over 77 years. Mrs. Castiglione was a member of Sacred Heart Church, and was a member of the former Junior Mothers of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. An avid reader, she was also an active volunteer in the community for many years. She a member of the Gloversville Lions Club Auxiliary and a lifetime member of Soroptimists of Fulton County. She was married to her loving husband of over 66 years, Louis J. Castiglione, on March 20, 1938. Mr. Castiglione died November 12, 2004. Survivors include two children, Louis J. Castiglione Jr. Barbara of Gloversville and Elaine Castiglione of New Jersey; a brother, Stephen Carayas of Virginia; three grandchildren, Christine Chaite, Matthew J. Castiglione and Andrew J. Castiglione; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by a son, George Castiglione, and her siblings, George Carayas, Helen Cominel and Maria Carayas. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 pm Tuesday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a prayer service will be conducted 9:15 am Wednesday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Church, Gloversville. The Very Rev. Donald Czelusniak will be the celebrant. Interment will take place at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown.
