Obituary of Douglas V. Putnam

Mr. Douglas V. Putnam , age 78 of Gloversville, died unexpectedly at Nathan Littauer Hospital on Monday morning, October 16, 2006, after being stricken at his home. He was born on April 2, 1928 in Gloversville, the son of the late Albert and Mary Gutta Putnam. A 1946 graduate of Gloversville High School, he later worked as a carpenter, and as an automobile salesman at various dealerships in the area. He was also a custodian at the former Bishop Burke High School. Doug worked for Coleco Industries at its Amsterdam, Gloversville and Mayfield locations, and retired from MCA Record Company. Mr. Putnam was a member of Sacred Heart Church, a Life-Member of the Concordia Club, and was a former member of the Gloversville Lions Club and the St. Mary?s Church Holy Name Society. A devout family man, Doug loved to be with his family. He and his wife Jane had bowled in the Lads & Lassies Bowling League. He played golf each day of the week, and had prepared his golf cart to play on the day of his death. On September 22, 1949, Doug was married to the former Jane M. Boles who survives. Also surviving are five children, Douglas V. Putnam Jr. Beverly of Cobleskill, Thomas J. Putnam Marje of Horse Heads, William M. Putnam Lynne of Mayfield, Albert P. Putnam Diana of Broadalbin and Melissa A. Hoffman Adam of Schodack; 13 grandchildren, 3 great- grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and a cousin. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert G. Putnam. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 pm Tuesday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a prayer service will be conducted ay 9:15 am Wednesday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Church, Gloversville. The Very Reverend Donald Czelusniak will be the celebrant. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association, 7 Washington Square, Albany, NY 12205.
