Obituary of Lester E. Circe

Lester E. ?Larry? Circe 88, formerly of Sylvia Lane, passed away late Saturday evening at the Hillcrest Springs Adult Home, under the care of Hospice. Born in Ausable Forks, N.Y. on April 27, 1918, he was the son of Raymond and Genevieve Nelson Circe. During World War II, Larry proudly served his country as a sergeant with the United States Marine Corps. He was in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and fought in Iwo Jima. He was the co-owner of the former Kline General Tire Company in Schenectady. He was an active member of the Knights Of Columbus Council 209 and the Msgr. William A. Browne Assembly Fourth Degree and it?s Color Corps. The offices that he held include Faithful Navigator, and past district warden and captain. Larry was a member of the John J. Wyszomirski Post 701 American Legion, chairman of the Boys Scouts at St. John The Baptist Church and a member of the city?s zoning board. A communicant of St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church, he served as an usher since 1945, and was a member of the Holy Name Society. Larry also served as a Republican Committeeman of the former seventh ward and was the first Amsterdam baseball commissioner, Little Giants game official and a manager of the Youth Baseball Commission. His first wife, the former Bernice Grum, passed away on October 25, 1985. He later married the former Patricia Vidulich who predeceased him on Oct. 23, 2003. His brothers, Michael and Donald ?Doc? Circe also predeceased him. His loving family includes his son, Jeffrey Circe of Lakeland, Florida; grandson, Brett Circe of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; great granddaughters, Jeannette and Breanna Circe; a brother, Clifford Circe of Clifton park; a sister in law, Theresa Walton of Amsterdam; step daughters, Mary Elizabeth Darrow of Canton, New York and Susan Mullarkey of Jacksonville, Fla.; as well as nieces and nephews. Services are Thursday at 10:15 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass Of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary?s Church. Interment is in St. Stanislaus? Cemetery with military honors. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4-7 pm at the funeral home where the Post 701 will conduct a service at 6:00 pm, and the Knights of Columbus at 6:30 pm. Contributions may be made to the Community Hospice Of Amsterdam, in care of the funeral home. Larry?s family is truly grateful for their care and concern during his illness.
