Obituary of Walter G. Bergen
Mr. Walter G. ?Sonny? Bergen, 72, of St. Highway 163, Canajoharie, New York died early Thursday morning at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam with his wife by his side.
Born on January 15, 1934 in Little Falls he was the son of the late Walter and Caroline Bergen. He was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools.
For over 40 years he owned and operated the Bur-Bank Farm. He was of the Lutheran faith, and was a member of St. Paul?s Lutheran Church in Fort Plain, New York.
Sonny enjoyed life, loved his family and adored his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed.
Survivors include his wife, the former Sandra Voght, whom he married on December 30, 1995; five daughters, Sherry and Sandy Bergen, Barbara Rockwell, Sally Tripp, Susan Bergen, and Amber Bergen; three sons, Walter, Henry and Michael Bergen; four step-children, Dale Johnson, Kristy Klim, Shelly Johnson and Nicole Wheadon; eight grandchildren; one great granddaughter; several nieces, nephews and cousins and his four canine companions, Linus, Sassy, Prince and Lucky.
Sonny was predeceased by two sisters, Betty Snyder and Caroline Mabbett and one brother, Henry Bergen.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, November 13, 2006 at 11a.m. at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY with the Rev. Kenneth Dingman presiding. Interment will follow in the Ft. Plain Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call from 5 until 8 Sunday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, in care of the funeral home.
