Obituary of Barbara Jean Nelli-DellaRocca
Barbara Jean Nelli-DellaRocca, 66, of Amsterdam passed away Monday morning, November 13, 2006 at St. Mary?s Hospital following a brief illness with her loving husband by her side.
Barbara was born November 29, 1939 at her family home on John Street in Amsterdam. She was the daughter of Sophie Kroup-Olbie and the late Joseph George Olbie. She attended St. Casimir?s Elementary School and graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School, class of 1957. She worked at Knolls Atomic Power Lab in Niskayuna, NY for 37 years before her retirement, and has since been employed as Social Director for KAPL?s employee club. Barbara was an active communicant of St. Casimir?s Roman Catholic Church where she was a member of the parish council, serving as the Diocesan Bishop?s Appeal Assistant. She was also currently President of St. Casimir?s Ladies Auxiliary. Barb enjoyed her family and friends as well as traveling with loved ones. She was a gourmet cook and was known as the ?hostess with the mostess?.
On October 9, 1999 Barbara was united in marriage to Stephen DellaRocca, of Amsterdam.
Barbara was truly loved and will be missed by her mother and husband, as well as sister, Patricia Fura, of Amsterdam; brother, James Bonnie Olbie, of Perth; three daughters, Lisa Joe Kaminski of Seneca Falls, Stefanie Nelli of New York City, and Amy Stan McLean of Merrimack, NH. She is also survived by two aunts, one uncle, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be Thursday, November 16, at 8:45 AM at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM at St. Casimir?s Church with the Rev. Stanislaus J. Swierzowski, celebrant. Interment will take place in St. Casimir?s Cemetery. Calling hours are today from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home where St. Casimir?s Ladies Auxiliary will conduct a service at 6:00 PM for their departed president. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Barbara?s memory may be made to St. Casimir?s Memorial Fund, or the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
