Obituary of Robert Armstrong

Mr. Robert Armstrong, 88 of Gloversville, died Tuesday, November 21, 2006. He was born June 9, 1918 in Gloversville, son of the late Giles and Christobel Armstrong Hodder. His adopted grandparents were Bert and Grace Armstrong. Mr. Armstrong was educated in Gloversville schools and a 1937 graduate of Gloversville High School. Early in his life he was employed in the shipping department of the former Daniel Hayes Co. and most of his life he was employed at General Electric Co. in the small motor division, retiring in 1978. An Army veteran of W W Two, Mr. Armstrong served in the European and African Theaters. A television news buff, he always prided himself on keeping up with world events. For many years Robert was an avid circus fan, traveling with friends who shared his enthusiasm for various events. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, E. Jane Ford Armstrong of Gloversville whom he married May 30, 1941. He is also survived by a daughter; Nancy J. Fleck Kenneth of Johnstown and a son; Robert R. Armstrong Katherine of Gloversville. Additional survivors include his grandsons; Chad Shawna Fleck, Aaron Fleck, and Bryan Kelly Fleck, great grandchildren; Mariah and Jacob Fleck, step-grandchild; Wesley Christopher, step-greatgrandchild; Niyokei Whyte, and a brother-in-law Russell Ford Patricia of Mayfield. Funeral services will be conducted 3 pm Friday from the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street Gloversville. The family will receive friends Friday 2-3 pm prior to the service. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to the Foothills United Methodist Church, 17 Fremont Street Gloversville.
