Obituary of Volkert S. Bruce
Mr. Volkert S. Bruce, 93, of Gloversville, died Wednesday November 22, 2006 at Mt. Valley Hospice House. Born May 23, 1913 in Gloversville, he was the son of the late Scott and Myrtle Meyers Bruce. Mr. Bruce was educated in Gloversville schools and a graduate of Gloversville High School.
He was founder and owner until his retirement at the age of 83, of Volkert Bruce Contracting, which later became Voken Builders Services, Inc. Mr. Bruce, was a founding member of the Meco Volunteer Fire Department and the Concordia Singing Society. He was married June 2, 1931 to Carrie Walters Bruce who pre-deceased him in 1992.
Survivors include his three children: Kenneth T. Bruce and his wife Joan of North Carolina, Janice Lefcort and her husband Richard of Florida and Thomas W. Bruce and his wife Sandra of North Carolina. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Nancy Delong of Gloversville, Kenneth W. Bruce and his wife Lynn of North Carolina. Patricia Bruce of Syracuse, Steven Lefcort of Georgia and Kyle Bruce of North Carolina. Mr. Bruce has two great grandchildren, Sawyer C. Bruce and Hannah C. Bruce of North Carolina. He was pre-deceased by a sister; Margaret Ellithorpe and a grandson; John Lefcort.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:30 PM Saturday from the Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street Gloversville. The family will receive friends Friday 6-8 pm. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to Mt. Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville.
