Obituary of James Walter Brownlee
Mr. James Walter Brownlee, age 72, of Caroga Lake, NY, died Sunday morning, November 26, 2006 at Nathan Littauer Hospital Emergency Room, Gloversville.
He was born April 14, 1934 in Queens, NY, the son of the late James and Elizabeth Anderson Brownlee. He served in the Army from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean Conflict, and later graduated from Pace University in New York City in 1959.
Mr. Brownlee was employed by GMAC in New York City for 30 years, retiring in 1992. He also owned and operated the Iron Kettle Motel in Caroga Lake for 23 years.
He was a member of Saint James Lutheran Church in Gloversville. An avid sports fan, Jim was particularly fond of playing golf and rooting for the New York Yankees.
Jim is survived by his wife, Gladys M. Lokajarvi Brownlee of Caroga Lake; four sons, James R. Brownlee of St. Petersburgh, FL; Ward S. Brownlee of Durham, NC; Keith A. Brownlee of E. Spriingfield, NY and W. Scott Brownlee of Connelly, NC; two grandchildren, Sarri Brownlee and Nathaniel Brownlee of Johnstown; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother and sister.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 am Saturday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, with the Rev. L. David Almleaf officiating. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Caroga Lake Fire Dept; Caroga Lake, NY 12032.
