Obituary of Irving Tenzer

Mr. Irving Tenzer, 81 years old, of Valley View Road, died Monday at St. Peter?s Hospital in Albany. He was born December 26, 1924 in Brooklyn, a son of Morris and Elizabeth Dumbro Tenzer. Mr. Tenzer received his education at Brooklyn Tech and then enlisted in the US Air Force. He served his country during WWII and during the Korean War. Mr. Tenzer then moved to Miami, Florida where he met and married the former Ruth Migdal who was from Amsterdam. They moved to Amsterdam in 1952 where they had since resided. Mr. Tenzer was employed by the former Grand Rapids Furniture Store until the mid 1960?s when he opened Tenzer?s Furniture Store on East Main Street in Amsterdam. He and his family owned and operated the store until 1999. Mr. Tenzer operated an upholstery business during his retirement. He was a member of Congregation Sons of Israel Synagogue in Amsterdam. Mr. Tenzer was also a member of Amsterdam Lodge#84 F&AM, BPOE Lodge#101 of Amsterdam and enjoyed his volunteer work at St. Mary?s Hospital. He is survived by his wife Ruth M. Tenzer of Amsterdam, his son Mark W. Tenzer of Ft. Johnson, New York, his daughter Mindy Jackel and her husband Jeffrey of Milton, Massachusetts, and two grandchildren, Juliana and Erich Jackel. Mr. Tenzer is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00am at Congregation Sons of Israel Synagogue, 355 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, with the Rabbi Morris Zimbalist officiating. Burial is in Congregation Sons of Israel Cemetery, Cranesville. The family will receive relatives and friends one hour prior to the service from 10 until 11:00am at the Synagogue.
