Obituary of Gertrude F. Van Der Sluys

Mrs. Gertrude F. ?Gert? Van Der Sluys, age 78 of Gloversville, died Friday afternoon, December 22, 2006 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, with her husband and son at her side. Her death followed an extended illness. She was born October 7, 1928 in Gloversville, the daughter of the late Gustav and Florence Maider Andersen. A 1947 graduate of Gloversville High School, Gert also attended Albany Business College. A very active member of the former First Baptist Church in Gloversville, she was employed for twenty years at the former Glove Cities Chevrolet, retiring as office manager. She enjoyed gardening, camping and traveling. Mrs. Van Der Sluys is survives by her husband, William Van Der Sluys of Gloversville; a son, Dr. William G. Van Der Sluys and his wife Dr. Lori Van Der Sluys of State College, PA; three grandchildren, Niclaas, Christien and Jasper Van Der Sluys; two nephews and several cousins. She was preceded in death by a sister, Audrey Frease. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 pm today Saturday, December 23rd at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville east side section of South Kingsboro Avenue. There will be no calling hours.
