Obituary of Gladys M. Zilka
Mrs. Gladys M. Zilka 84, of Gloversville died Saturday at Albany Medical Center Hospital. She was born June 9, 1922 in the town of Northampton, daughter of the late William and Theda Loveless Farhart. Mrs. Zilka was educated in Gloversville schools and a 1941 graduate of Gloversville High School. Early in her life she had worked for the local telephone company and also as a glove worker at the former Bachmo-Sherman Glove Co. She was a homemaker most of her life.
Devoted to her family, she was always involved in her childrens' lives. She had been a Brownie and Girl Scout leader as well as a long time PTA member from McKinley Elementary School through Gloversville High School.
Mrs. Zilka worked on the Board of Elections since 1963 and was an active member of the Ida McGinnis Senior Citizens for many years. Her other community affairs include Sacred Heart Church and her neighborhood ?Even Dozen Club?.
Gladys was a long time Yankee fan and her hobbies included Bingo and casino visits. Perhaps one of her greatest loves was attending her grandsons many years of sporting events which she rarely missed.
She is survived by her husband Edward A. Zilka of Gloversville whom she married June 7, 1947. She is also survived by her children: Marie Gregory Wojeski of Gloversville and Linda Zilka of Gloversville. One sister survives; Jeanette Fonda of Gloversville her grandson: Christopher Jennifer Wojeski of Virginia, a brother-in-law; Harold Paul Joseph of Greenfield Center, nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by a sister; Marie Farhart and a brother; Ernest Farhart.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 am Friday at Sacred Heart Church Gloversville. The family will receive friends Thursday 4-7 pm at the Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street Gloversville. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery, Johnstown in the Spring. Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to the Ida McGinnis Senior Citizen Center, 53 Church Street, Gloversville, New York 12078 or to a charity of choice.
