Obituary of John F. Quinn
John F. Quinn, 89, of Perkins St., Amsterdam, passed away Sunday morning December 31, 2006 at the E.L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam.
Born in Amsterdam, New York on February 11, 1917 a son of John J. and Frances Lanahan Quinn. He was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools. Mr. Quinn served as a Military Police Officer in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He worked for a time as a Truck Driver and worked for Olbrych?s Dairy until 1978. He then went to work for the New York State Barge Canal System and was a Lock Steward until 1992. He last worked for the New York State Thruway before retiring in 1996.
Mr. Quinn was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Amsterdam.
He was also a 19 year member of the John J. Wyszomirski American Legion Post #701 of Amsterdam.
He married Shirley Lavender Quinn on February 3, 1951. In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters, Helen C. Pierce and her husband Richard of Johnstown, NY and Mary Darlene Smith and her husband Alfred of Mayfield, NY. Six grandchildren; Bobbie Jo Sullivan, Albert Hunt, Leroy Smith, Crystal Rickard, Shannon Smith and Gloria Hubbard. Great grandchildren, step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was pre-deceased by two brothers, Bill and Ed Quinn and two sisters, Hazel Fritzen and Helen Quinn.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at 10:30A.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy park Ave, Amsterdam followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15A.M. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church. Interment is in St. Mary?s Cemetery, Ft. Johnson, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30A.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Amsterdam or to the American Cancer Society.
