Obituary of Laura E. Nadler

Mrs. Laura E. Nadler, 84, of County Highway 107, Johnstown, died Wednesday afternoon at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam after a brief illness. Born in the family home near Ames, New York she was the daughter of the late Leland and Edith Wessell Button. She was a lifelong area resident and was a graduate of Canajoharie High School. Mrs. Nadler worked for a time in the Credit Department at Beechnut, and later for the Canajoharie Central Bank, before becoming a homemaker. On October 23, 1944 she was united in marriage to Richard D. Nadler. That union lasted nearly 60 years until his passing on May 5, 2003. She was also predeceased by two grandsons, David and Daniel Nadler. During the child rearing years, Laura was active in scouting, the PTA and the Mental Health Association and was one of the four founders of the Montgomery Transitional Services. She was also a board member of the local Red Cross. She played the English hand bells at the 2nd Presbyterian Church, and was a church organist for many years, including 20 years at the Hagaman Methodist Church. She was a life-long member of the First Reformed Church in Amsterdam, and had recently transferred to the Johnstown Reformed Church, when she and her husband Richard moved in with their son and wife. Her loving family includes one daughter, Mary Ann Wert and her husband Church of Watertown, New York; two sons, Douglas A. Nadler of Amsterdam, New York and Donald R. Nadler and his wife Kathy of Johnstown, New York; four grandchildren, Christopher and Richard Nadler of Louisiana, Katie Taylor of Redwood, New York and Lorie Autote; eight great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 3:30pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam with the Rev. Donald Pangburn presiding. Interment will take place in Fairview cemetery. A calling hour will precede the funeral from 2:30 until 3:30. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, in honor of her grandson Daniel.
