Obituary of Marion E. Maneth Hathaway

Mrs. Marion E. Maneth Hathaway, 96, of Gloversville, died January 9, 2007. She was born November 18, 1910 in the Town of Johnstown, daughter of the late Bernard and Anna Winager Maneth. A graduate of Gloversville High School, Mrs. Hathaway was also a graduate of the former Albany Business College. Following a few years of employment in Albany, she returned to Fulton County where she was employed at the former Fulton County Public Welfare Department. Marion was soon named secretary of the Children?s Agency within the department, where she remained for several years retiring following WWII. She then became a homemaker. She was a member of the Former St. Mary?s Church and the Altar Rosary Society. An excellent seamstress, Marion took great pride in her repairs and alterations for the priest and altar boys garments, as well as altar materials. Her sense for community also brought her to volunteer at the former Fulton County Infirmary for more than 25 years. She was married January 8, 1938 to Clayton E. Hathaway, Sr. who pre-deceased her in 1988. She is survived by a nephew; Albert H. McCaffrey, Jr. of N. Carolina, two nieces; Regina McCaffrey Decker of Florida and Mary Ann Maneth D?Abreu of Long Island. She is also survived by step-grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Hathaway was pre-deceased by a stepson; Clayton E. Hathaway Jr. PhD and his wife Betty, a brother; Emeron Maneth and his wife Dorothy, a sister; Edna Maneth McCaffrey and her husband Albert H. McCaffrey, Sr. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1 pm Saturday at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in Mayfield Cemetery, Mayfield. Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, 149 S. Main Street, Gloversville.
