Obituary of Victor A. Coons

Victor A. Coons, 81, of Railroad St., Fonda, NY passed away Sunday January 14, 2007 at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam. Born in Schoharie, NY on December 7, 1925 a son of Louis and Ethel Wyman Coons. He was a lifelong area resident and attended Amsterdam Schools. Mr. Coons worked for many different companies in the area. He worked for a time at the former Mohawk Carpet Mills in Amsterdam, General Electric in Schenectady and the Gem Urethane Company of Amsterdam. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and served in Japan during the occupation. Mr. Coons was a member of the Fultonville Masonic Lodge #531. He was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, St. Monica, Juanita, Mohawk Valley and Cayadutta. He also was a member of Oriental Temple in Troy, NY. He was a Past Patron and Past District Grand Lecturer of the Mohawk Valley Chapter #489 of Fultonville and the Sigma Bodies-Valley of Schenectady. He married Charlotte J. Reese on December 16, 1950. In addition to his wife survivors include one daughter, Constance Winger and her husband Patrick of Darnestown, MD; two brothers, Clarence Coons of Iowa and Frederick Coons of Amsterdam; two grandchildren, Evan and Ryan Winger. Several nieces, Nephews and cousins also survive. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2007 at 11:00A.M. at the 1st United Methodist Church of Hagaman, Pawling St., Hagaman, NY with Rev. Cynthia Leonard presiding. Interment will be held in the Spring in Maple Ave, Cemetery, Fultonville, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday January 19, 2007 from 4:00-7:00P.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Pawling St. Hagaman, NY 12086.
