Obituary of Robert Jonas Persons
Robert J. Persons, 88, of Persons Rd., Town of Florida, Amsterdam, passed away Friday January 26, 2007 at his home following a brief illness.
Born in Amsterdam, NY on August 2, 1918 a son of Charles D. and Mary Reagan Persons. He was a lifelong area resident and attended St. Mary?s Institute in Amsterdam.
Mr. Persons was a lifelong area farmer where he worked in the Town of Florida on his families farm. He also was a talented carpenter and built many homes and businesses. He even had a hand in building the Town of Florida Volunteer Fire Department Station #2 where he has been a member for many years. Mr. Persons enjoyed fishing and hunting and also was a member of the NRA and the Farm Bureau. Robert always had a smile for everyone. He never had a bad thing to say about anyone.
He was communicant of St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. He married Beatrice L. Beyer Persons on October 11, 1941. In addition to his beloved wife survivor?s include, Two sons, Christopher R. Persons and his wife Tracy of the Town of Florida, Thomas P. Persons of the Town of Florida, three daughters, Patricia L. Little and her husband John of Town of Florida, Joan A. Garreau of Carlisle, NY and Janette S. Folckemer and her husband Harry of the Town of Duanesburg, NY. One brother, H. David Persons of the Town of Florida and one sister, Mary A. Quandt of the Town of Amsterdam. Nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday January 29, 2007 at 1:00P.M. at St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church, Main St., Amsterdam. Interment will be in St. Mary?s Cemetery, Ft. Johnson, NY. Calling hours are private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Town of Florida Volunteer Fire Department, 6252 State Hwy 30, Amsterdam, NY 12010 or to the Community Hospice of Amsterdam, 246 Mannys Corners Rd., Amsterdam, NY 12010.
